Blow That Whistle and Get Marching

Want to make your practice perfect?

July 12, 2023 - If you're a band director, drill instructor, section lead, or anyone working with marching bands, we've got two tips to make your practice more effective!

1.Use a Metronome

Playing in time is crucial for a band's sound. Incorporate a metronome during practice to improve timing and synchronization. Start slowly and gradually increase the tempo as your band becomes comfortable with each song.

Pro tip: If you're using Anchor Audio speakers, you can plug your metronome into a speaker so that everyone on the field can hear it. This will not interfere with your wireless mics or headset mic that operate on the same speakers. Your mics will broadcast over the metronome without silencing it.

2.Communicate From Multiple Angles

Give a wireless mic to someone in the press booth/crow's nest, another person mid-stadium, and one on the field. This allows multiple vantage points so that you can fine-tune and perfect your formations. The wireless mics will allow everyone on the field to hear every comment and save time when you don't have to wait for comments to move from the field to the stadium to the press booth and back.

Pro tip: Anchor Audio wireless microphones and headsets have a 300' range! This allows you to broadcast from almost anywhere on the field, depending on where you locate your Anchor Audio speaker. We recommend setting it up on the 50 yard-line facing the field for practices.

Marching band practice requires regular rehearsals and consistent effort by everyone. From your color guard to your drum line, implementing these tips can quickly make practices more effective and improve your overall routine, creating more memorable shows.
